The Standard Club

One of Atlanta’s Historic and Best Clubs

The Standard Club in Atlanta, Georgia, traces its roots to 1867 as “The Concordia Club,” a social club in the heart of the city.

In 1987, the club moved to its current location in Johns Creek, on more than 300 acres of land in the suburbs of Atlanta and closer to its newer membership base. Golf architect Arthur Hills designed the club’s 18 holes, and a 125,000-square-foot clubhouse was constructed that included two ballrooms, dining facilities, indoor tennis and pickleball courts, fitness facilities, a member bar, and more.

Outdoors are eight additional clay tennis courts, four hard courts, eight pickleball courts, a swimming pool, and kids’ area complete with water mushroom.

“Our club is remarkably unique with all it has to offer,” remarked PGA General Manager & COO Scott Mahr. “Yet, it’s truly astonishing to contemplate the transformation that awaits us in the near future.”

Mahr is alluding to the upcoming overhaul of the clubhouse set to commence in January. “We’re embarking on a complete reinvention,” he shared. “From the floors to the ceilings, and every piece of furniture in between, it’s all getting a fresh start. We’re even repurposing one of our existing ballrooms into a brand-new dining space. The entire ambiance will undergo a revitalization.”

The second ballroom will also undergo renovations but will remain in use as a ballroom for weddings and special events. The club also plans to contract golf architect Tyler Rae for a complete renovation of the course starting in 2026.

One of the biggest changes members will see in 2024 is the construction of a new Mizuno Performance Experience center on the club’s driving range. The new 3,000-square-foot building will be designed to blend with the architectural style of the clubhouse, and will function as an R&D, precision fitting and club-building facility for Mizuno (open to guests on an appointment-only basis), and also provide a separate hitting and fitting bay for Standard Club members.

Construction is slated to start by the end of January, with an opening planned for the summer.

“We are thrilled about what lies ahead,” Mahr said. “The Standard Club is truly exceptional … a self-contained club like this nestled in the metro Atlanta area with no residential component and state-of-the-art amenities. It is truly a respite for our members.”
