“Winemaking is about expressing terroir — the soil, the climate, and a sense of place,” says senior winemaker Lee Miyamura, who, along with viticulturist Patrick Silveira, has developed Trinchero Family Estates’ Iron + Sand brand into yet another successful chapter in the long and rich history of the winegrowing region of Paso Robles, California. That part of the state’s Central Coast is renowned for sea breezes and marine fog that help cool vineyards at night, leading to exceptional fruit quality, great acidity, and balanced flavors. All of those can be found in the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is aged in neutral French oak for a wine that is Paso fruit-driven with subtle oak nuances. As for the name Iron + Sand? It reflects two elements found in the area: the sturdy iron trellising that supports the vines and the well-drained sandy soils from which the vines grow.
